Event description
Event description
This informal training session is targeted at PhD students whose research involves collecting data on sensitive topics and who are at the ethics application stage or about to begin their data collection. The three hour session, led by Dr Alicia Heys, will begin with a discussion of some of the key ethical considerations surrounding conducting research of this nature. It will then cover some of the most important practical considerations for undertaking this type of research. This will include issues such as:
- choosing the most appropriate method of data collection
- identifying and contacting potential respondents
- dealing with gatekeepers
- the benefits and drawbacks of face to face and online interviews
- dealing with distressed participants
The session will encourage open discussion between participants, so please come ready to discuss your own research plans and some of the ideas and concerns you have about the process.
