'The application of generative design in the Architecture/ district planning field '
Peng Qin/ PhD Candidate/Project Manager for Computational Designer
The generative design combines parametric design and artificial intelligence with the conditions and data provided by the designer. It takes advantage of the computing power of AI to explore a myriad of possible solutions and mixes them with the input and influences of human consciousness. This process helps the designer to find the most practicable or most effective solution toward the design goal by exploring a wide range of options. This talk will be a brief introduction to the application of generative design in a different design field and aim to inspire the audience to apply this method to other research areas.
Biography
Peng Qin is an Architecture designer, Structural Engineer, researcher, and PhD candidate based in London. He is working for GBLD ltd, P2 Studio ltd. Also, He is a researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Hull. He is teaching at Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL also has taught AA Makelab and Architecture Design Studio at the University of Nottingham, UK. Prior to joining P2 Studio and GBLD ltd, He has worked for various award-winning practices, including Mamou-mani Architects and Arata Isozaki & Associates. Before Peng received his master's degree from AA School of Architecture (AADip. RIBA PART2), he has gained two Bachelor's degrees, one in Architecture and another one in Structural Engineering. His dual technical background has equipped him with advanced skills in design, computation, parametric design, digital fabrication, and structural analysis. TheResoNet Pavilion he did at Mamou-Mani Architects in collaboration with the Creative Prototyping Unit has been recognized by various design awards such as A' Design Award, A&D Trophy Awards, and Architizer A+Awards.
