Workshop details

This half-day, online workshop is designed to cater for the specific needs of science colleagues who are relatively new to teaching in Higher Education; from new lecturers, fixed-term teaching-focused academics, to postgraduate students and early-career researchers. The workshop provides an opportunity to discuss and share best practice in science education with other early-career academics and lecturers who have won awards for their teaching.

The workshop is run by the Early Career Lecturers in Biosciences Forum and Heads of University Biosciences for newcomers and relative newcomers to biological university teaching. This year we are running it in conjunction with the University of Hull’s Teaching Excellence Academy, and are broadening the opportunity to engage by inviting our colleagues from across the STEM community.

The workshop will cover presentations from recent winners of the HE Bioscience Teacher of the Year and will also give the opportunity for attendees to share their innovative responses to teaching in the time of a pandemic.

Please note: This workshop is a bioscience focus event but any staff member across the University is welcome. It is offered free of charge.

Interested in sharing your innovative practice?

As part of attending the 'New to Teaching Workshop' you have an opportunity to deliver a short (5 minute) presentation sharing how you have adapted your teaching to the COVID19 pandemic.

If you wish to present your work you should submit a short (150 word) abstract and title via this survey. The deadline for submission is 10:00 on the 4th January.

Presentations should be 5 minutes long and supported by a single slide that can be uploaded to the virtual conference.
