Event description

Event description

The use of data within higher education institutes (HEIs) has quickly become customary practice for informing strategic decisions, benchmarking against the sector, and highlighting areas for enhancement.  Data availability is ever increasing within the institution, currently encompassing student satisfaction, assessment and outcome information, and retention and progression data (among others).  Additionally, the use of this data in quality assurance measures, such as the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF), means there is an increased demand on academics and university staff to be able to understand this information and make use of it in informing and enhancing their teaching practices.

This workshop will cover the different types of academic data provided by the Academic Data Team and its potential use for reflection and enhancement. Focuses will include how staff currently use or engage with data, some examples of how staff can use the data more effectively, and activities around deriving meaning from the data.

The workshop is open to all staff.

Competencies
By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Identify different types of academic data
  • Reflect on quantitative and qualitative data
  • Recognise/identify the next steps in using the data for enhancement activity.

UK Professional Standards Framework (HEA, 2011)
