Event description

Event description

Do you use Microsoft Word like a typewriter e.g. clicking on B to apply bold to a piece of text or pressing the Enter key several times to create space between paragraphs?  This method, although it does get the formatting done, is not very efficient and takes a long time and many clicks on the mouse before you have finished.

Come along to this workshop and learn more about using the features of MS Word that can help you format your work more efficiently and consistently - see how much time and effort you will save, giving you more time for research.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Use styles in MS Word. This enables you to:
    • Automate formatting to meet departmental/faculty guidelines
    • Control how headings and text appear (this will save you LOTS of time)
    • Create new styles to suit your needs
  • Create an automatic table of contents
  • Use breaks and section breaks. This enables you to:
    • Start new pages/columns
    • Vary page numbering within a document (e.g. i, ii, iii, 1, 2, 3,)
    • To have landscape and portrait pages within the same document
  • Edit page margins (for printing purposes)
  • Saving formats to a template

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is useful for students and researchers of any level who need help with formatting long documents such as dissertations and independent projects.

This workshop is run by a Library Skills Adviser
