Inspirational Women - A Celebration Event

Thursday 9th March 2017 - 1.15pm - 5.45pm - Lecture Theatre 29 - The Wilberforce Building, Hull Campus

Join us in a celebration of the women who represent the female pioneering spirit, or who have been a source of inspiration in our lives. Each speaker will read or talk for between 10 and 15 minutes.  There will be readings of poetry, prose, stories, music and much more.

Come along and spend a heart-warming afternoon in the company of some talented and inspiring members of the local community, research and teaching staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, musicians and local published poets and authors.

You'll be inspired by the likes of Jane Austen, Dr Maya Angelou, Harriet Martineau, Oprah Winfrey, Hull's pioneering female aviator - Amy Johnson, Kitty Wilkinson - Victorian sanitation pioneer, 'Hidden histories and the making of the British landscape: Mrs Elizabeth Prowse of Wicken', Gloria Steinem, Toni Morrison,  Professor Lillian McDermott - Physicist, Alice Walker and Maura Laverty – author and Ireland’s first celebrity cook.

Looking forward to seeing you there.  All welcome.

Interval - 3.00 - 3.30pm - when refreshments will be provided.

During the interval, Ms Ilina Ivancheva, a music PhD student here at the University, will entertain us with her piano playing.

Places are limited to 86 so booking is essential.

You will not unfortunately be able to turn up on the day.

We do not issue tickets. Once you have booked online using the link below, you will receive a confirmation email.   This is confirmation that you have a place.
